Pleas Note: Specific permission for letterboxing has neither been requested of nor granted by the area administrators, so discretion is appreciated.

Grandview, MO has 15 wonderful and diverse parks with amenities for all ages including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, shelter houses, picnic areas, a skate park, a community center, bike and hiking trails and more. Letterboxes in three of Grandview's parks--Meadowmere, John Anderson & Freedom--have a central theme with a positive message. Enjoy Grandview's parks and consider visiting nearby Longview Lake while you are in the area.

John Anderson Park is named for the person who opened the first business (Anderson's General Store) in the Town of Grand View in 1889 and who was the town's first postmaster. (Trivia tidbit--Harry S Truman was also once postmaster in Grandview) This 30+ acre park was established in 1974. Plan on 10 minutes of easy walking to find this letterbox.

Directions to John Anderson Park:
From 71 Hwy, take the Main St exit in Grandview and go west to the stop light at 15th St. Go left (south) on 15th to 135th St. Turn right (west)on 135th past 12th St (don't turn at the sign to John Anderson sports fields) to the John Anderson Park entrance on your left. Drive past the swimming pool parking lot and park in the circle parking near the tennis courts.

Follow the paved path that heads east from the rest rooms then turns south past the playground and shelter house #1. The path will cross over a bridge then turn right (west) along a parking lot. Continue on this path until you come to a second bridge that crosses a creek going north. Stop at the yellow guard pole before this bridge. Face south with your back to the bridge. Walk several hundred feet across the soccer field toward a cluster of trees behind some residential homes until you are aligned with a utility pole abutting the fields and stop. (You may have to walk around the soccer field if there is a game in progress.) Continuing in a southerly direction, take 20 to 25 paces (where one pace is counted each time you step on your left foot, taking the first step with your right foot) toward a cluster of 6 trees. In the center of this cluster is one tree with four trunks. You will find the letterbox between the trunks of this tree. You will need to remove some small limbs and bark to expose the letterbox, then push the letterbox up between the trunks about two feet in order to remove it. Please be sure to replace the loose limbs and bark that hide the letterbox. To return to your vehicle, cross the soccer field to the second bridge, cross over the bridge and follow the paved path back to the parking lot.
