From Colchester, take Rt. 16 towards Lebanon. Take a right off of Rt. 16 onto Goshen Hill Road. From Goshen Hill Road, take a right into the Bartlett Brook Wildlife Management Area. Park in the lot to the left of the barrier gate. Enter the trail (which is the road you came in on) at the point that announces this is the BBWMA and turn left.
You will come to a branch in the trail in which another trail strikes off at 280 degrees. Stay on the main trail at 210 degrees.
Further on, there will be another older trail that strikes off to the right at 230 degrees. Stay on the main trail and enter an open field. There will soon be another trail going off to the right, but again you are to stay on the main trail at 120 degrees. Look for a small, stone culvert at the bottom of the hill that carries water under the road. This might be easy to miss if the brook has dried up.
At the T, take the north trail continuing until it branches once again. At the branch stay on the north trail. Follow this until you reach the point where the trail comes to another open field.
At this point, just as the trail enters the field, there is a multi-trunked tree at the end of a stonewall to your left. Follow this wall about 30 feet to a six-trunked maple tree (seven trunks if you count the small, dead one). The Grasses Letterbox is in the south side of the wall at the base of this tree.
As you read what grasees do for life, as we are and understand it, reflect upon the land as the Land Manager$ see it. Look for any evidence of replanting and replacing of what has been destroyed.
Bartlett Brook Wildlife Management Area seems to be a popular hunting spot. Be sure to wear bright colored clothing during the hunting season. This includes bowhunting.
