Difficulty: Bike, Hike, Walk - flat terrain
To start in East Hampton: follow directions from the clues for Rapallo Viaduct letterbox. Travel across the Lyman Viaduct toward trail-mile marker #3.
To start in Colchester: take Route 16 to the Comstock Covered Bridge. Turn onto Comstock Bridge Road (it will turn into Bull Hill Road) for approx. 1.5 miles. On the sharp hair-pin turn there will be a dirt parking area on the left for the Air Line Rail Trail. Look for trail-mile marker #3 to start your adventure.
At Trail-Mile Marker #3, notice the trio of trees, sharing the same roots. You will find your treasure along the ledge. It's not a "honey pot" but just as good.
Be sure to take the time to walk/ride across the Lyman Viaduct located between trail-mile marker #3(east end) and marker #2(west end). Enjoy the scenery; pack a snack/lunch to eat at the blue picnic tables located on the west end of Lyman Viaduct. Or travel back to the Comstock Covered Bridge.
