BACKGROUND: Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge is one of over 500 national wildlife refuges. The refuge is located along the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, is about 14,000 acres and is primarily comprised of intermediate marsh and pine flatwoods. The refuge is home to a variety of birds year-round including shorebirds, wading birds, raptors, waterfowl, and songbirds.

TERRAIN: Easy

DIRECTIONS: Exit 74 off I-12 and travel south on 434. Turn left on 190 and travel several miles. Turn right on Transmitter Road until it dead ends. Turn right, pass pipeline then turn left into the Big Branch Marsh Boat Launch. Follow the road until it ends and park.

CLUES: Look for the gnarly tree at a trailhead. The goose is hiding under the NW side of the tree.
