IMPORTANT NOTE: These two boxes were reported missing by none other than the First Couple Of West Coast Letterboxing. Will go verify eventually, hopefully soon, and provide more boxes.. A nice wheelchair accessible nature trail, that is underwater when the tide is running high.

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NOTE: These two boxes were reported missing by Montesano Letterboxers. The boys were so enthused about 'boxing that they created boxes and put them in the same locations. No report on there current status

Friends Landing is an Outdoor Recreational Hub for People with Disabilities.

The Friend family donated 152 acres, previously an old gravel pit, with one-mile of Chehalis River frontage, to Trout Unlimited in 1988. Dredging for gravel had already produced a 32-acre, man made lake with a variety of fish.

The project is a Grays Harbor Chapter 111 of Trout Unlimited project, an all volunteer organization. Some of the last remaining old growth timber in the State of Washington is located on the site, and the area is a habitat for a wide range of wildlife. Washington State Watchable Wildlife has designated Friends Landing a natural wildlife scenic area. Development of the property has proceeded in such a way as to not disturb the delicate balance of natural wetlands. To walk quietly along the river or lake is to have on display eagles flying, beaver swimming, and otter peering at you from the waters of the lake. While Friends Landing is accessible to all, this natural park has been planned in its entirety for the special people among us.

To the Trailhead: You can find Friends Landing 35 miles west of Olympia and 12 east of Aberdeen, Washington. As you drive along US 12 appraching the West Entrance to Montesano (the county seat, with a very interesting courthouse) you will see the signs directing you to Friends Landing. After getting off US 12, you will be heading south on the Devonshire Road. You will be turning left at the Poor Farm (no longer there) onto Katon Road. Head south until Katon Road ends in Friend’s Landing. Park in the Boat Launch parking area.

CLUES:
If you want to check out Quigg Lake, head out onto the float. Head East on the paved path (the Interpertive Trail) aroung the lake. When you pass the entrance sign, the path turns left. Go straight for another view of the lake and Wildlife information. Head back, take the first left across the bridge. You will pass a bench on the left, stop and watch the lake in all its serenity. As you walk along enjoying the wetlands, you will come to a straight stretch. You will spot two stumps almost across from each other. Check the top of the one on the right, see if the Green Tree Frog hasn’t jumped back into the swamp yet. Continue on to the gravel train on the left, there is another serene bench with a view of the lake. You will come to a long boardwalk with a steel bridge in the middle. Eventually you will get back to land. You might spot a former tree on the right, heading down the bank toward the lake. The Siamese Cat that wandered away from the campground has been spotted under the far side of this log. Next is another float with Forest info. Head back thru the campground to the beginning.

Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
