Time: Less than 20 minutes
Terrain: 2
Difficulty: 1
Date last reported found: 10/23/04
Directions to the start:
Take Route 128 North to Route 127 in Gloucester. At the lights, take a left on Eastern Avenue heading toward Rockport. As you come into town, Route 127 will turn left onto Railroad Ave. Do not turn left. Continue straight into town on Broadway. Then turn right onto Mt. Pleasant Street. Continue 1 mile. The road will change name to South Street. On the right, you will see a meadow behing a stone wall. This is Waring Field. There are a few places on the right side of the road where it is possible to pull off the road and park on the shoulder safely.
Clues:
(Note that place names in the clue section are not actual place names, but have been modified to fit the theme of the story.)
1.) Walk back toward town to the beginning of the stone wall. You will see a path across from 69 South Street. That is the start of the trail.
2.) Walk down a wide, unpaved trail bordered by rock walls and trees, with branches above forming a homey passageway. Farther down the trail, you will notice that the trail becomes grass covered and the sky is open above you. You will cross over a small brook. Continue to the end of the trail.
3.) At the end of trail, look to the right to see a hobbit bridge. Go left toward the stone bench on a gravel trail. Follow the trail to the right and take a left off the trail in front of 2 small trees, one of which has a birdhouse on it. Follow the grassy path, and pass a green wooden bench. You will see a fork in the path. Go right into the Mirkwood Forest. Stop when you come to a meadow (a good spot to see butterflies). Look east and you will see a large boulder. Behind that boulder is a large tree with 4 sections in its trunk. Between the 4 is the hidden box.
When you finish looking at the contents, please hide it carefully in its original spot.
