This box is missing as of 9/2008

This box has been replaced as of 11/26/2006 with a new logbook.

The Slumbering Family Tree is located in the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. To get to the Gardens exit University Drive at I30 just west of downtown and go north. Take the first left which is Rock Springs Road. Follow this road to the end and park at the entrance to the Rose Garden.

Go through the large stone entrance to the Rose Garden to the overlook and enjoy the view. Then go down the steps to your right. At the bottom turn left and continue down the hill on the stone steps passing the roses. Take the first Garden Gate to your right as soon as you reach the bottom of the hill. Keep to your right. You will cross over a small waterfall on your left. You will also see a signpost for Rock Springs 16. Continue until you see a very small stone pond with another small waterfall on your left. (There may be no water flowing in dry months). Look to your right for a small dirt path into the trees. At the end of this short path is the magnificent Slumbering Family Tree! Enjoy this wonder of nature. See if you can pick out a "Mommy, Daddy, and Baby" in front of the tree. Now, climb up to the opening in the trunk and turn around. Go for 7 paces (1 pace=2 steps) at a bearing of 115 degrees until you come to a medium sized tree. Then turn and go 3.5 paces at a bearing of 7 degrees along the fallen tree until you get to the end and discover a small hollow log. The box is inside behind some chunks of bark. Please rehide carefully as this is a very popular spot!
