There once was a group called JAR, they decided to go letterboxing...at dusk...in an apple orchard...with a coyote, a hungry bear, and a porcupine. (and a cell phone so we could be "GPS"ed) They decided from that day forward never to letterbox at night...in bear territory...again! SOOOOOOOO.....This wiser, more experienced group has decided to place a night-owl letter box in a safer place for all those who are COMPLETELY obsessed yet unable to go out in the daytime M-F. Hope You Enjoy!

Let's Start at the begninning and we can stop at the end! You'll need to place yourself at the angelic statue located where the people of "upper" Fitchburg can find "common" ground. In this location you should look for the only woman who was honored and place your toes at her back. Elizabeth's age at death will give you the number of paces (equaling 2 steps) to head Magnetic North. (You may feel the need to sing HAIL TO THE CHIEF as you pass the "Calvin Was Here" sign on the ground)After Liz's age is complete follow the path (left or right) to the turtle forever entering the fountain. Count The benches on your way! OOOOO! Those boys are chilly! They need to be dressed! Oh yeah! They are every year by the seniors at Fitchburg High School! Ok I guess they'll survive. When you're ready to move on stand behind George (the turtle) and pat his back! Remember the number of benches? Multiply that by two and place a zero at the end. There's your bearing to cross the street. Find the R in this BOULDER's sign and look under the bush to your left! There's your box! Stamp in where it's safe and re-hide carefully.

Curious about the rock but too impatient to read the sign? Local folklore is that the rock rolled down the hill to where it is but this is actually not true this Rock was carried by a glacier to a spot not far from that location where for many many years it was relied on for milling purposes It was taken apart and re-built in the current location.
