This is a very special letterbox for us. Not only is it our first planted letterbox, but it is planted near the place where we first met.
From I-91, take exit 26 in Greenfield. Follow the traffic circle and take Rt 2 West past Shelburne and into Charlemont (about 20 minutes).
After going through the town of Charlemont, you will pass Zoar Outdoor to your right.
From Zoar Outdoor:
@ 1.5 miles - Turn right just before the bridge crossing the Deerfield River
@ 3.9 miles - Make a left at the "T" intersection
@ 4.0 miles - Proceed with caution under a single lane railroad overpass (notice lots of stickers on the yellow arrow sign)
@ 4.7 miles - Pass a picnic grove
@ 8.5 miles - Pass over some railroad tracks
@ 9.0 miles - The road will turn to the right and begin to head East. There is an area to pull off to the right side as you exit the turn. Park here.
Head due south towards the river on the footpath. There will be a “catch & release” sign on a tree to your right.
A fallen tree will line the path to your left. At the south end of the fallen tree is a large, 4 forked tree with a 6 foot stump on the north side.
From the south side of the forked tree, take 16 paces due east to a large, moss-covered log that lies east to west.
Your prize will be found on the east end of the log.
