For those unfamiliar with hitchhiker hostels, they are letterboxes with a stamp and logbook of their own, yet they also are guaranteed to always contain a hitchhiker. This box has a rather large stamp of a dog with a large spot 😊. That stamp stays with the letterbox.

YOU MAY ONLY TAKE A HITCHHIKER IF YOU LEAVE ONE IN ITS PLACE. Please make sure to stamp any hitchhikers you leave into the box logbook and stamp the box stamp into the hitchhiker's logbook as well as leaving your personal stamps in the box logbook.

Directions: I-91 Exit 49. Head South on Route 5. After .6 miles, turn left onto Brainard Road. Drive .8 miles and just past Katherine Road on the right, take a left into Brainerd Park’s West Entrance (this is NOT the main entrance). Park on the West side of the parking lot (ballfield will be to the right).

Start at the curb of the 3rd parking space to the left of the telephone pole with the transformer (the only telephone pole around). Head straight into the woods approximately 55 steps from the curb to a Y-shaped tree.

At the Y-shaped tree, walk left approximately 45 steps down the hill to a large gray birch with a hiding space in the bottom/back. Behind a large stone "door" you'll find "The Spot."

Please be sure to rehide the box well as Brainerd Park is a high-traffic area.
