READ, READ, READ…

Edward Taylor was an 8 year old attending the Boyds Negro School in 1936.
As he sat at his desk daydreaming of fishing, skipping rocks and playing in the woods with his 10 year old sister Nellie, Miss Lillian, his teacher called his name. “Edward, is there a problem?” Startled, he looked up to find that he was the only student left in the schoolhouse. “No Miss Lillian!” he said as he jumped from his seat and ran for the door. He jumped from the front steps and around to the back of the small schoolhouse. His sister often met him here to walk him home and he was looking forward to seeing her. He looked toward to old outhouse and did not notice her at first, then, he caught a glimpse of the red ribbons she often wore in her hair. He snuck up to the outhouse and crept around the back. When he reached the back of the outhouse, she ran from him in a direction of 40* and hid behind a large cut hollow log. When he reached the spot where she had hidden herself, he saw Nellie looking at something she had found inside the log…Read, Read, Read…

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Some of the other boys from the school had taken up a game of hide and seek in the woods and asked Edward and Nellie to join them. Nellie and Edward looked all around them trying to find a great hiding place. They noticed a clearing at 30* and walked in that direction. They came upon a large tree that was one up to four feet and then turned into three trees! WOW, What a great hiding place! Here they found Food for Thought.
