***REPORTED MISSING SPRING '06***
This box should not have been difficult to find so it's probably really gone. It is quite a distance from home though so I haven't been able to confirm this.
Although this box is a drive-by, it takes a lot of driving to get there!
Lake Rawlings is an old rock quarry that was accidentally flooded when the miners hit an aquifer. Now it's a great place for SCUBA diving and there are some camp sites as well, but I would never go for the camping. If you're a diver, it's a lot of fun--there are sunken things to see, like a bus, a boat, some cars, etc. Stay at the Nottoway (get it? Nod-away?) motel (hey, it's pretty much what you'd expect) and pick up a box while you're at it.
Start at the end of the hotel by the office. Turn to look at route 712--see that light pole? If you go around the pole so you're looking back at the hotel, you'll see a black corrugated drainpipe. To the right of the pipe, the box is hidden under one of the azaleas.
See? I told you it was easy to get. But you have to get there first!
Lake Rawlings is about 2 hours from Portsmouth, VA down Route 58. The easiest way to get there is to take 58 to VA 712, then turn left on Rt. 1 until you see the Lake Rawlings sign about a mile up on the right.
