Status: To the Batcave! is missing on 11/20/06. Oof! was alive and well on 1/29/08.

This is a brief hike, maybe 20 minutes round trip and a very mild uphill journey.

On your Bat Utility Belt there should be gloves, a compass, a flashlight, and a Batarang. You don't have to have a flashlight, but it makes the cave more fun.

To get to Bronson Canyon, exit the 101 freeway at Hollywood and head west for one block to Bronson. Turn right (north) on Bronson and follow it to Canyon Dr. Turn left onto Canyon and follow this all the way into the gates of Bronson, all the way to a small parking lot on the left just before a gate blocks your path. Across the road from the parking lot the road veers up to the right. This is a different entrance than the other two letterboxes. Also, it is not the road right next to the parking lot that goes up to Camp Hollywoodland. You must cross the street to get to the trail for the Batcave. Proceed up this road past the gate.

#1 To the Batcave!
Follow the trail all the way up to the clearing, where you will see the entrance to the Batcave. Yes, that was the actual location where Batman and Robin sped out of the Batcave in their Batmobile. I believe the scene was filmed once and used over and over in every episode. Hehe.

Anyway, from your Bat Utility Belt, take your flashlight and proceed all the way through the cave to the clearing on the other side. If this makes you uncomfortable, you can walk around to the other side as well. I have seen, at times, caution tape blocking off the entrance to the caves, but I have also seen people inside and have been known to stroll through myself, so do whatever makes you comfy.

Either way, once you are in the clearing on the other side, you will notice that there are three caves on this side of the hill. The large center one and a small one on either side. Facing the cave entrances, stand at the entrance to the small one on the left. Now turn around and walk away from the cave, following the curve of the hill around to the right. There are some boulders in this vicinity; find the large boulder that has a smaller boulder leaning on it. (This smaller boulder now has graffiti on it and may have shifted enough to not be leaning on the other one at all.) Be sure to poke your batarang THOROUGHLY in the crevice underneath the graffiti boulder. Once you are pretty sure there's nothing with teeth under there, pull out the three smaller rocks to find the "To the Batcave!" letterbox. Please rehide well, using the smaller rocks as cover. *This box has obviously been discovered by non-letterboxers who've left their mark with pencils or spray paint, but since these finders have respectfully rehidden the box, I decided to leave it there until I have time to find a better hiding spot. :)

#2 Oof!
Now either walk back through the cave to the other side or walk around the hill, whichever you prefer. At the entrance on this side, stand as close to the pink pipe as you can without stepping up the hill. From your Bat Utility Belt, pull out your compass and find 350 degrees. Walk in this direction across the clearing until you see a small trail that will take you up to that hill there. When you get to the top (very soon) you will be rewarded with a great view of the Hollywood sign.

Now turn around and head back down the little trail. As you descend, you will see a small rockslide area on your left. At the bottom of the rockslide are the largest rocks. Find the bush with a large rock at the base of it, and in between the two, under a pile of smaller rocks is the Oof! letterbox. Please rehide well.
