On the hill above the wonderful tiny town of Tidioute in the picturesque Allegheny National Forest on the Rolling Allegheny River in Warren County, Pennsylvania...Is a place to get a beautiful view. Well, actually, there are tons of places to get a beautiful view... but this one is official. It is called the Tidioute Overlook.
Park in the lot and walk into the woods. Go down the path to the RIVER OVERLOOK. Stand in front of the "Allegheny River Islands Wilderness" sign. Enjoy the view.... now turn to your right.
50 yards or so down the hill is an uprooted tree with a big root ball. Go to the place where a mossy fallen tree has a fork. You will also see an old piece of a fence. Look in the fork for the letterbox.
This box was once elsewhere in the National Forest, but it has been moved to this new location due to vandalism at the old location. The stamp is hand carved. You might want to bring your own ink pad and a picnic to eat.
