The "Comanche" Microbox is located in Old Fort Parker State
Historical Park. This stamp pays tribute to the Parker Family
tragedy, and eventual blood line leader of the Comanche Indians. On
May 19, 1836, Cynthia Ann Parker was abducted during an Indian raid
of her family's compound (or Fort) at this location. She was raised
by the Indians, and eventually accepted their lifestyle, having
children with a Comanche chief. In 1860, Texas Rangers captured
Cynthia and her daughter Prairie Flower, and returned her to the
Parker family. He daughter soon died, and as did Cynthia. Her son,
Quanah, eventually became chief of the Comanche tribe, and led his
tribe into its last battles with the Texans. After surrendering, he
took on the sir name of his mother (Parker), and became instrumental
in conforming his band into the lifestyle of the white man.

Directions:

>From Groesbeck, go north on Hwy 14 to Park Rd 35, turn left. Follow
the signs to the fort.

To the Microbox:

If the fort is open, go inside and enjoy touring it. Eventually exit
the fort through a small gate in the pickets at the Southwest
corner. Turn right and cross the bridge. (If the fort is closed,
walk around the South side of the fort from the parking area, then
follow the pick wall East to the bridge mentioned above). Once
across the bridge, walk to the 2 posts ahead near the creek. From these posts, follow the creek upstream (West) for 33
paces to a group of trees, one of which has fallen across the water.
The microbox is in the hollowed base of this tree covered by a large piece of bark.
Please re-hide well when you are done, then head down the road to the
Confederate Reunion Grounds SHP for more stamping pleasure.
