This box is where "Birds of a Feather" like to flock together, and there is even a "Hawk" observation tower. It's the World Birding Center at Bentsen Rio Grande State Park in Mission, Texas. Here you can see hundreds of bird species, butterflies, javelinas, and maybe an ocelot.
Exiting Highway 83 at Bentsen Palm drive, proceed south to the World Birding Center. After parking, walk down the street, over the canal, to the gated entrance of the park. After walking around the gate, you will see the guard house at the entrnce of the park. Off to the left of the street, you see a "do not enter" sign. Here, to the left of the sign, take 9 steps, L,R,L,R,L,R,L,R,L, into the trees, and you should almost BONK your head on a V tree. Behind its base, under some broken concrete and sticks is the WBC letterbox.
This is a great place for a morning of hiking, with lots of wildlife and nice facilities. Too bad they do not allow camping here anymore. The stamp is a crude imitation of the WBC logo carved on an eraser. (I tried my best) I hope you enjoy this area while you visit the Rio Grande Valley.
After replacing the box where found, don't forget to check out the Butterfly garden back near where you parked. There are some more nice trails that lead you right to the Rio Grande River.
Please let me know if you find it.
