Alive and well 7 NOV 2004

This box is placed in Village Creek State Park. To find the park, go north from Beaumont on US 69/96/287. Take the Mitchell Road exit and follow the signs to the park. The park features many trails for hiking and biking. If you bring your bicycle, be aware that the trails are very sandy, so you will need a trail bike.

After paying the park fee and getting a map, drive to the dead end parking area at the end of the road and park. You will see a sign for the Loblolly Trail. To the left of this sign is another sign that says "Picnic Area". Walk past this sign and past the shelter. Turn left and follow the trail until you come to a sign ("Walk In Camping 500 feet, River Birch Trail, Village Creek Trail, Tupelo Trail") and a sign with a number "1" on it. You will be at a bridge over Sandy Slough. Cross the bridge and go past the outhouse. You will pass another sign (Walk In Camping, River Birch Trail, Village Creek Trail, Tupelo Trail"). Continue past the Creekside Campground and a sign with a number "2". Continue on the trail until you come to a junction. To your right is a sign with a number "3", and directly ahead of you is a sign ("River Birch Trail, Swimming Area"). Beyond this sign (50 degrees magnetic and 15 paces) is a large tree. The microbox is at the base of the tree on the back side, to the left of the charred spot and tucked between the roots.

Watch for snakes! Please be discreet and replace the box as found. I would appreciate notification when you find this box.
