From Cobalt Corners (traffic light on highway 66) turn north on Depot Hill Rd. In about 3/4 mile, turn right on Gadpouch Rd. and continue as it turns to dirt. In 0.4 miles (from the turn onto Gadpouch) on the right there is a small (2-3 car) parking area and on the left a blue-blazed trail and Shenipsit Trail sign.

Follow the blue-blazed trail through the woods, uphill to a level area, then up a steep climb to a rocky ridge. At the top of the rocky area the trail turns sharply right, away from the slope. Follow the trail to the intersection with a white/yellow blazed spur trail on the left in about 50 feet. This is near the location of the DEP #1 Letterbox.

Turn left (west) on the white/yellow trail and follow it to the Great Hill overlook. There is a spectacular view of Great Hill Pond and the Connecticut River. When you are done enjoying the view, return along the trail about 12 paces from the west end of the overlook to the end of the stone outcrop. When your feet hit the dirt, turn left (north). Walk about six paces to a group of small rocks in the hillside. Looking left along the slope, you will see a leaning tree with a boulder at its foot (about five paces from where you stand.) Look under the rock at the base of the tree for the box you seek.
