Please Note: Specific permission for letterboxing has neither been requested of nor granted by the area administrotors, so discretionis appreciated.

NOTE: Summer 2006 While Colbern Rd is under construction take 7 Hwy to Cowherd Rd, go west to "T", turn right to the 4 space gravel parking lot facing the pond.

This letterbox is located on the east side of Lake Jacomo near the Native Hoofed Animal Enclosure. From 291 Hwy and Colbern Rd go east on Colbern Rd about 3 miles to Cyclone School Rd. There will be a brown park sign on Colbern Rd just before Cyclone School Rd directing you toward Missouri Town and Kemper Outdoor Education Center. Turn left on Cyclone School Rd, after a mile or so you will see a brown park sign that says "Welcome to Fleming Park". Continue on this road and follow the signs to the Native Hoofed Animal Enclosure. Park in the 4-space gravel lot across from the Native Hoofed Animal Enclosure. The parking lot faces a small pond.

From the trail head sign that reads "Tcha-To-Ga Nature Trail" walk through the grass along the left side of the pond to a trail marker at the back of the pond. Follow this trail into the woods until yoou come to a "Y". This is a 1.2 mile loop trail.

SCENIC ROUTE Take the the path going left. The path will turn from grass and dirt to rocks and gravel and slope downhill. Eventually you will be able to glimpse the lake off to your left.

Continue on this path past a trail marker that points right. The path will parallel the lake for awhile then curve right along side a creek. When the path turns rocky and starts uphill you will see a sitting bench made from a cut log on your left.

Directly in front of the bench, facing the ravine/creek, there is a small rock ledge. The letterbox is under this ledge behind some flat rocks. Please replace the flat rocks to assure the letterbox is well hidden. You can continue on this path back to the "Y" and past the pond to the parking lot.

SHORTER ROUTE At the "Y", take the path to the right, continue through an overgrown area (in the spring) over a wooden foot bridge and across a small (mostly dry) creek until you come to a tree with 6 trunks on the right side of the path. Twenty paces past this tree is a sitting bench made from a cut log. See above paragraph for letterbox location.

While you are in the area you might want to check out the Hoofed Animal Enclosure for elk and buffalo as well as Missouri Town, which has buildings dating back to the 1850's. Cost for Missouri Town is $3/adult, $2/child. Hours are 9-4:30 Tuesday thru Sunday--weekends only mid Nov thru end of Feb.
