Battle of the Bands – String Cheese Incident

Difficulty level: Pretty darn easy. After two weekends of planting, I was getting tired of it by this point! I may move the box at a later date, especially when the vegetation grows back in the Spring. But the spot is very busy so be discreet!!
Time: About 1 hour round trip if this is the only box you hunt. But you are walking right past two musical geniuses along the way…

The String Cheese Incident is a band that started in the early 90’s by some college buddies in Bolder, Colorado. After gaining a large word of mouth fan base they were asked to appear at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the band took off from there. String Cheese is a mix of bluegrass, rock, reggae, funk and jazz and is one of our favorite jam bands. You can hear them almost every Monday night on WXPN’s Jamnation radio program followed by one of my favorite programs, The Grateful Dead hour. They play often in the Philadelphia area and if you like the Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic you will love “Cheese”.
I am listing the lyrics to “San Jose” below, but with Cheese, it’s not about the lyrics, it’s all about the music. If you want to check them out H&H highly recommends “A String Cheese Incident” and better yet, “Carnival 99”

San Jose Lyrics (Kang/Nershi)

Pedro wakes in the morning
Sun is shining, the birds are singing.
Other children are calling
The gangs all here and there’s no time for waiting.
As they run down the alley,
Merchants sort their fare.
Preparing for the day,
They wait for todays first pay.
Not impatient, not eager,
They’re familiar with the meter of
Just another day in the streets of San Jose’.

They sing a-ooom a-ooom buenos dias
a-ooom a-ooom como estais
a-ooom a-ooom how is your family
a-ooom a-ooom so good to see you today.

Pedro knows it’s time to go home now.
Sun is sinking, the birds have stopped singing.
Other childrens mothers are calling.
At home they know a meal will be bubblin’.
As the sun goes down la calle’.
Musicians fill the air.
With songs of love,
Songs of love and despair.
Conqueros, charangos,
All sensing the tempos of
Just another night under San Jose’s light

To find the String Cheese Incident box, return to the main trail after carefully re-hiding Mr. Z. Continue in the direction you were heading. You will pass a 9th Tee sign and a 13th Tee sign. Soon you will see rest rooms ahead. Don’t get too excited, they may be locked! But you never know so check them out if you need to. Continue along the trail past the rest rooms over the stone bridge. As soon as you cross the bridge turn right and walk in to the fallen tree. As you face the creek look down to the left for a broken branch joint protruding out from the main trunk. String Cheese is just launching into a glorious cover of “Take 5”. Again, forgot the camo so please re-hide well and try to act casual, like you are exhausted from a long hike and sitting on this log to catch your breath. I know I was!!!

To get back to your car, turn back and follow the main path until your reach the intersection then head left back up the hill to the parking lot.
