Bandits Roost Park
499 Reservoir Rd.
Wilkesboro, NC 28697
(336) 921-3390

Getting There: From Winston-Salem, NC: Take US 421 north to Wilkesboro. Follow SR 268 west 6 miles to the Goshen Volunteer Fire Department on SR 1141 and turn right on Jess Walsh Rd. Entrance to the park is located .5 miles. The park is primarily set up as a campground for groups, tents and RVs, but you should be able make a day-use visit. Open from April 1 to Oct. 31.

Hike = Easy. Allow 45 min. for round-trip. Excellent for kids.

From the Park Attendant Station, follow the clues below.

•Go N and park either at the Boat Ramp lot, or at the Restrooms located next to the Dump Station.

•Starting from the Restrooms, walk down the road heading N toward the Group Camping area. You will see a small stucco building at the end of the road. Look to the L and you will see the lake through the trees.

•Take the road to the L. (There is a L and a R side of the loop. Doesn’t really matter which side you take.)

•104 and 105 mark the beginning of the trail you seek. Follow the trail. A group picnic shelter will be on your R.

•Meet a “Y” trail intersecting from the L. Continue to your R. Go downhill toward the lake. Trail turns to the R.

•Pass a white barked tree with green moss. A tribute to love is carved on the NW side.

•You will meet another “Y” trail intersection as you reach the lake. Continue on your R, bearing SE down the trail with the lake on your L.

•The trail ends at a clearing. In front of you to the SE you will see 3 rows of benches forming an amphitheater.

•Stand on the S edge of the amphitheater. Take 25-30 paces up hill going S you will find a birdhouse on top of a post. 3 feet to the right, you will see a small trail going back into the woods.

•Standing parallel with the birdhouse, proceed S up the trail into the woods, approximately 12-13 paces. Stop. Turn to the E and proceed 10 paces off of the trail. Here you will find a large tree, and on it’s R side, a wooden door. Behind the door lies your prize. (Please be sure to “close the door” when you are finished, otherwise the box may be visible from the trail.)

Please be discreet and replace everything hidden as you found it or better. Read the Waiver of responsibility and disclaimer before setting out.
