Letterboxes: 1

Placed: 11/21/2004 by Lobsta Lady
Adopted: 8/18/2007 by The Bird Stamper

Time: 1 / 2 hour

Difficulty: Short and easy

Note: On May 10, 2006 I retired this box because I moved to VT in June. In mid August, 2007 Bird Stamper found the original stamp & logbook that had gone missing, & he has kindly offered to adopt this letterbox, & get it back in action. Thanks! Bird Stamper.

Location:
Earle Park next to the Connecticut Audubon Center at Glastonbury, 1361 Main Street, Glastonbury

Directions:
From I-84 in East Hartford, take exit 55, Route 2 East to Rte. 17 exit and follow from below.

From I-91 take exit 25N to Putnam Bridge/Rte. 3, follow Route 3 over Connecticut River to Route 2 East (note: move into left lane quickly for Route 17 exit) and take Rte. 17 exit (Portland/So. Glastonbury). Center is on the right 2.5 miles from exit.

From Middletown, go east on Rte. 66 to Rte. 17 North follow through So. Glastonbury and continue on Rte. 17 another 1.5 miles center will be on left.

From Marlborough and southeast, take Rte. 2 West to exit 10, turn left and then right at first stop sign. At first stop light, take left onto Chestnut Hill Rd. and follow for 3 miles to Main Street. At Main, turn right Center is 1/4 mile on left.

Clues:
Take the main trail from the Audubon Center that parallels the cemetery, then turn right and cross over the brook on the new bridge. Follow the trail as it bends left at the No Gallop sign, and climb up the hill. At the top of the hill you will notice a large sewer manhole in concrete on your left.

Turn left and walk 26 steps. Go to a broken horse jump on the left at the edge of the woods. Sight 172 degrees and go to a horse jump made from sawn log sections on end. Go to it and sit on the East end.

At 112 degrees go 8 steps to a small size beech tree. From there, 108 degrees and 11 steps to a large knobby tree. Next go 120 degrees and 8 steps to a waist high thin brown stump with a curve. Turn around and look in the fallen log for your treasure.

You can return the way you came, or take the eastern down sloping horse trail back to within sight of the bridge and out.

Allow time so you can enjoy the Wonderful displays & educational items at the Audubon Center while you are there.

Happy Trails.
