Indian Grounds
Stamp: Handcarved
Placed by: Krab King & Mermaid Mom
Note: This box is not in a busy place but there could be road traffic, you might want to take your "treasure to the near-by park....
History: The box is by a stone cairn marking the burial place of a tribe of the Mattacheese that had a summer camp on the upper shores of Bass River and wintered on the shores of this pond. The tribe was wiped out by a smallpox epidemic. The cairn is engraved: "On this slope lie buried the last native Indians of Yarmouth"
Directions:
From Rte. 6, take exit 8, turn south onto Station Ave.
Clues:
On the right, a pond you will see,
Take the first right on a road named after me,
I once was a tribe of the Mattacheese,
The box will be found where my bones will be.
Count the pillars before you that you see,
And multiply that number by a factor of three,
Start at the farthest west pillar you see,
And count your paces, due north, (avoid the tree!!)
Turn east and count another three,
And my treasure should lie in the rock before thee...
*** You DO NOT need to move any rocks to find this box****
