Stony Brook Park

Checked and found 4/8/05, there is also a geocache now here.

Time: 10 minutes
Rocks in the trail

Directions:

I-95 South: Take exit 10. Turn right onto Ledge Road. On the left about 100 yards is a small mostly dirt parking lot with a sign out front for the park. East of the Parking lot there is a bench near the side walk overlooking a falls.

I-95 North: Take exit 10. Take a left over the highway. At next light take a right onto Ledge Road. Go a quarter mile. On the left is a small mostly dirt parking lot with a sign out front for the park. East of the Parking lot there is a bench near the side walk overlooking a falls.

I found this brook many years ago when I did a lot of nature photography. The falls are always an attraction for me.

Clues:

From North east corner of the parking lot take a trail going almost due north. It winds a little bit, but take it 70 steps to the wooden bridge over the Brook. Do not go over the bridge, it is a good way to end up falling in and ending up in Long Island Sound.

From bridge stay on this side of the Brook, go 37 steps along the trail that heads north west at 340 degrees. It zigzags a bit. Now on your right should be a set of rocks in the brook to allow you to cross. Down the trial in front of you will be two trees that are spray painted (green, I think). The left tree should be at 336degrees. The right tree should be att 10 degrees. When these headings work you should have a tree trunk on your left shoulder. Go to the North west side of this tree.

From here you are going to another tree. Turn your compass to 307 degrees. Walk 19 steps. At about 6 steps should be a birch tree with two places with its bark all rolled back (a disease maybe?). This birch should brush your right side as you are going by. You now will be standing right next to one of the bigger trees around.

Take the same 307 degree heading and go 10 plus steps up the small hill to the box. There are stones on the right and left that almost make the steps feel like you are walking up a corridor. There are 4 rocks on the right up to a 2 sister tree. On the left are two large rocks. On the right side of the second or back boulder there are 3 to 4 smaller rocks. Under the farthest left one is the box.

Please hide well, and do not hesitate to contact me about anything about this box, especially the clues if I am off somehow.

Stamp is carved.
