Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: 250 yards or so (it was dark!)
Status of Letterbox: ALive and Well on 7/3/2006
The "Campground Bandit" letterbox is located in Cedar Hill State Park, in southwest Dallas. This park offers hiking, camping, biking, swimming, boating, fishing and a playground. Very close to Dallas, but still peaceful!
Directions: From I-20, go south on Hwy 1382. Turn right at park enterance, pay fee at booth, and go to road junction. Turn left and go to Coyote Campground (2nd campground loop in this direction, #281 and up). Turn right into loop, and go to 1st bathroom house on left. Park here.
To the Letterbox:
Look farther down the road and on the right side. There is the trail. Take trail on right side of road (if heading toward lake) and continue to trail junction. Turn left and head for the overlook, counting 40 steps from the trail junction post. Stop. Look right for the big multi-trunk tree about 5 yards from trail. Box is in a cavity in the base, covered with sticks and bark. Please re-cover it well, otherwise it will be exposed to the trail.
