Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Microbox: About 2/3 mile one way.
Status of Microbox: Alive and Well on 4/1/2006
The "TX Tour - 12/4" microbox is located in Fairfield Lake State Park. After 2 1/2 days of boxing from Houston to Dallas and back with Silver Eagle, I decided to honor the non-stop, searching even in the dark, letterboxing trip with a stamp. Fairfield Lake S.P. offers boating, fishing, bird watching, hiking, camping, biking, playground and picnicing. Silver Eagle and BarefootLucy also have boxing in the park (and my box is on the way to "Oh Deer" box.
Directions:
From I-45, go east on Hwy 84 through Fairfield. Watch for State Park brown sign at far end of town, and turn left. Take FM 2570, then FM 3285 to park enterance. Pay fee, then turn right at road juction. Go around to far side of lake, pass dump station, and campgrounds. Just past the last campground, park in small area on right with trail heads (this is after Post Oak Campging area).
To the Microbox:
Take the "NATURE WALK" (not Nature Trail) on the left. Continue along trail until you reach the bench with views of the lake. From the bench, go 35 steps farther along the trail. To your right is an 8 foot stump. Box is in hole about 5 feet up on the back side, covered with leaves. Be sure to re-hide well.
