Another box in the now famous Kitchel Wilderness discovered by the now famous Koyote of The End Gang. This is a preserve and hunting is not allowed, however it does border a state forest so for safety, wear orange during hunting season. Not suitable for young children and a bit uphill. Might take up to two hours round trip.

The stamp was carved for me by RTRW and was my signature stamp for awhile so the image may not be new to some of you.

DIRECTIONS: From Winsted, Ct., take Rt.8 north toward Colebrook and Sandisfield Mass. When going through Colebrook, watch for a lumber yard on the left. just after this, will be Sandy Brook Rd. on the left. Turn onto Sandy Brook Rd. and travel 1.1 miles. You will come to a small dirt pull off on the right. Park here.

Head up the white blazed trail bearing 20 degrees. Continue your climb until the trail levels out (paying no attention to all side trails) and you come to a double white blazed hemlock on the right. Continue straight onto the yellow blazed trail. You will quickly cross over a small stream. Continue along this path with the stream on your right. Walking on, you will pass between boulders on the left and right side of the trail. Shortly after this, you will come to a split in the trail. A double yellow blazed tree takes you to the right but you need to stay straight (or left) on the white trail and after the last white blaze you'll notice some blue with red blazes. You need to follow these left but a blow down and lots of debris have blocked the path. You must make your way over this debris to again see the blue/red blazes (if you don't go left soon enough, you'll come to a very large tree across the path and a red blaze on the left, turn around and go back). Very soon the blue trail goes straight ahead but you need to turn right (look for a tree on the left with a red arrow and a double blaze) staying on the red trail which might have some blue in some of the blazes. This is a long steep climb with one missing right turn blaze (so watch closely). Very near the top you'll see some bright white markings on trees (a boundary line?) when you get to them, look right for a ledge. Look under an overhang near the bottom left for the box.

After replacing well under the overhang retrace your steps back to your car and thanks for being such good sports.
