****REPORTED MISSING JULY 2005*****

Visit the fantastic Caldwell Zoo in Tyler. Until this year, the zoo was free to visitors, funded by the Caldwell Foundation. As happens, the zoo now has to charge admittance, but it is still quite affordable. True it is a small zoo, but it easily compares in quality to many big city zoos (and my family were season passholders to the world class San Diego Zoo for several years). Pay your way in, then spend a couple relaxing hours roaming the zoo. My favorite? It's hard to say on any given day, but I always love the flamingoes - the mascot of the zoo!

From the entrance to the zoo, bear to the left. You will soon see a sign pointing to East Africa. Follow the paved sidewalk in the direction the sign points. As the sidewalk winds around, you will reach a block wall. Count 12 paces (one step = one pace, for a 5'5" woman) to the place where the wall rises 6 full blocks tall. Look at the top of the wall and probe around in the back notch on the end until you find the box. The trick is being inconspicuous - this IS a high traffic area! But if we could hide it, you can find it, but be patient!

This box is, needless to say, kid-friendly but not pet-friendly. Admittance to the zoo as of 12/6/04 is $6 for adults, $3.50 for kiddos age 3-12, and $5 for seniors. Here's their link -http://www.caldwellzoo.org. Be sure to check hours before you go!
