The Flustered Chicken

Alive and well 2/13/05!

Hand carved stamp

This will take about 5 minutes to walk a flat trail (though it can get a little wet). I really like this lake view.

Directions

South Bound I-95: Take exit 13, go straight across to Route 1 West, turn left. Friendly’s on right. Duchess on left.*

North bound I-95: Take exit 13 to light (Route 1). Take left. Go past Carvel on right. Friendly’s on right. Duchess on left.*

* At next light take a left before Trader Joe’s (onto King's Highway North). You should be taking a bridge going up and over I-95. After the bridge you should be taking an immediate right (Park Land Drive). You now should be going right around a corporate office building. Pass the parking lot behind and beyond the second office building. You will find parking spaces marked specifically for visitors to Selleck’s and Dunlap Woods. You have arrived!

Go south down the stairs to the trailhead. There will be a bulletin board about the nature preserve. Go through a rock wall on the trail. Stay right. Now there will be a sign that says “Welcome to Selleck’s Woods and Dunlap Woods Nature Preserve”. Go through another wall. Hang a right. Now you should be on a trail with sawed off tree trunks on the right side. If the trail is wet use the flat logs. Take another right toward the water that brings you through another rock wall. You should be close to the water, with a trail to the left and right. Take the right trail at the waters edge. Trail is at about 14 degrees. Go 25 steps. A little before you get there is a small tree hanging over the trail. On your left will be the water and a three sister birch. Look right (at 90 degrees). There is a large tree stump (10 feet tall?) growing out of the rock wall. Walk the 16 steps off the trail to get in front of it. Now go to your right (down the wall) about four steps. Take a reading of 100 degrees (or just look straight at the wall) and the “Flustered Chicken” will be in the wall a little way toward the bottom.

( and yes there is a geo cache in the Sellecks Woods part of the Nature Preserve )

Please e-mail about your visit, even if to just say it is there. Thanks!
