The Beetle
This box was placed with the consent of the owner:
History:
The Beetle Cat Boat was first built in 1921. This vessel is made entirely of wood, and non-sinkable. In the years since the first boat was made the basic design has remained unchanged. Many of the patterns and the up-dated molds were developed by Leo Telesmanik and are still in use today. The Beetle Cat class is one of the oldest classes to race actively, and very possibly be the only one made entirely of wood!! It is a beamy comfortable boat to sail for young and old alike, and a great boat for those learning to sail because of its stability. The Beetle Cats are found in most of the fifty states, one was even sent to Greece!!
Beetle Inc. is now located in Wareham Ma. @ 3 Thatcher Lane.
The boat building shop maybe closed when you visit, so the clues will be possible to follow if you don’t “drop-in” to visit.
However, it would be well worth the trip to go during “working hours” of 8am –4:30 pm, Mon.- Fri. to drop in and see the Master Builders at work in the “old” trade of wooden boat building!!
Directions;
Take I-195 to exit 21 for Wareham/ Rte 28, take Rte 28 north towards Middleboro, go ¼ mile and turn right into Wareham Industrial Park (Kendrick Road) , take the second right onto Thatcher Lane. Beetle Inc. is on the left, #3.
Clues:
When you arrive at the shop park in the lot and walk to the first telephone pole on the left after their sign. Stand with the pole on your right facing the boat building shop. Walk off ten paces towards the shop. Look to your right and there will be a small indented area in the pine trees, look for a pine tree with some rocks at the base. Your treasure will be under the pine needles and the rocks. After you stamp in, drop in and say Hi, they’re a great group of people!
