REPORTED MISSING 9/30/07 AND CONFIRMED. IT WILL NOT BE REPLACED.

This letterbox is the second in our series of our favorite picnic places.

Who would have ever thought of a rest area as a good picnic spot? To be honest, the rest stop that we planted the letterbox is not where we had our picnic. That Wareham Rest Area, on RT 195 looked too creepy when we stopped there to plant the letterbox. Also, the rest area that we did plant the letterbox may actually even be in Plymouth. Keep in mind that since this letterbox is one of the two routes to the Cape, it can be quite crowded during the summer, particularly when traffic is backed up. Perhaps one of these times would be a good time to bring along your picnic.

Anyway, to find the letterbox, head east on RT 25, toward the Bourne Bridge. Between exit 2 and 3 (the only 2 exits on the road), you’ll find the rest area. Head to the parking area and follow the signs for auto parking. Park where ever you can find a place or you can get closer to the letterbox by driving past the tourist information building and parking on the right side of the road, near the picnic area.

Locate a lone, covered picnic table on the north (right) side of the parking area. Look toward the north for an uncovered table and a small path into the woods beyond that. Follow the path and pass the first faint trail on your left. When you see the next faint trail on the left, take 5 steps down that path. If you miss the second faint trail, you’ll soon come back out of the woods overlooking the ramp into the rest area. Look for an oak tree to your right and then another oak tree amongst a clump of smaller trees beyond that. Your prize lies hidden under the leaves in that clump of small trees.
