This microbox is located in the orienteering course at George Bush Park. You will need a compass for this hunt, so be sure to bring one. I recommend allowing about 20-45 minutes to find this box. Note that due to the box’s location, you will need an adult in your group or one child on another’s shoulders.

Driving Directions:

From the middle of Houston take I-10 west and take the Highway 6 exit. Turn left (south) to the busy intersection with Westheimer at the West Oaks Mall. Turn right (west)on Westheimer and just past the Best Buy take the right at the light on to Westheimer Parkway. You will go over the flood control dam into George H. Bush Park. In the park you will drive about 3 miles to the intersection S. Barker-Cypress. Turn left (south) and in about ½ mile turn into the parking lot that has the pavilions and playground. Park in the northern part of the parking lot.

From the parking lot, walk to the orienteering sign at the northern end of the parking lot (a recent BSA Eagle project). Stand on the stepping stone marked 1 and follow the instructions for the orienteering course to point 2. When you reach point 2 and standing on the stone marker (when looking for it, keep in mind it might be partially covered by grass), turn 20° and walk for about 90 feet to a thin scraggly looking tree (I think a Chinese Tallow), which is the first and shortest in a line of 3. Look about 6 feet up in the tree. The microbox is wedged in a small crook in the branches covered (hopefully) with twigs. If you could, please find more twigs and cover it. Please be discreet, and keep in mind that since it is in a low lying area, after heavy rain there may be a pond where the course was.
