**** 8/11/05 - CONFIRMED MISSING - they are doing a significant amount of landscaping here - we will try to replace if possible - stay tuned!****

This box is located on the grounds of the RW Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport, LA. This impressive museum was created in homage to Mr. Richard W. Norton by his wife and son. Mr. Norton gained significant wealth in the early 1930's from oil discoveries in northern Louisiana. His wife and son began to amass a collection of fine art.

This eventually led to the Gallery which opened in 1966. This museum is free to the public. It houses incomparable collections of American and European paintings, sculptures and decorative arts spanning more than four centuries. The RW Norton Gallery is particularly known for its works by the titans of western art Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell.

This museum is set amidst forty acres of beautifully landscaped azalea gardens. These gardens contain over 15,000 plants and represent 100 native azalea species. The azaleas reach full bloom yearly near the end of March of beginning of April.

For more specific information regarding touring exhibits, hours, directions, tours and accessibility, visit their website http://www.rwnaf.org/

Clues: Park in the semi-circle in front of the Gallery near the southern-most end. Venture down the walkway headed in a SE direction around the southern end of the museum. Pass the pines and the southern maids. Cross the road and remain on the pathway. Take the left fork headed N and cross the parking lot, once again remaining on the path. Take a right headed E. Continue on the path noting a lovely resting spot on the right to take in the view. A small bridge is yours to cross and then take a sharp left headed in a NE direction. Pass three trees and admire "Los Brisas" (was off display in 4/05 - but the sign was there) as you cross another bridge. Bear right and head toward the boulder. Take a left after the boulder and go N uphill. At the top of the hill a sculpture awaits depicting some spirits of the plains. A chief is pointing in the right direction. A winding road lies ahead and before you can rest, you must find the point at the intersecting path. Plant your feet and face 250 degrees. A tree lies ahead 43 paces that contains your prize. Look up. This tree has a missing arm. Reach high beside the missing arm. You may need a tall escort to help you out (a 6 footer perhaps). Journey back to the bench to stamp in. If you get "boared", you have just missed the prize.

Please be extremely discreet and careful when retrieving and replacing this box. This is a hand-carved stamp and you will need to bring your own ink...markers would be great! This is stroller friendly; haven't seen any doggies on the grounds. Enjoy your hunt and exploration of these lovely grounds and the impressive museum.
