LOTS of finders!

BIG ISLAND Hawaii
This is a new letterbox to replace the original "Koki'o" which seems to be missing. DVN2RCKR placed the first Koki'o on 27 July 2003 with the clues below. If you find a black VHS box you have found the first Koki'o! If you find a clear plastic container you have found the new Koki'o planted in the ground level cubby hole hiding spot described in DVN2RCKR's clues:

"This park offers an interesting and quite different walk through lava trees--a spectacular tree cemetery of sorts created when flowing lava encased moist ohi'a trees with lava leaving an imprint of the trees' bark just before the wood burned completely from the intense heat of the lava. Although the park itself needs much maintenance, the interesting lava 'sculptures' and the beautiful tropical plants and flowers along the trek are definitely
worth the trip. If you're in the area just after sunset, listen for the chirping frogs that have taken over the region.

Directions: From Hilo, drive South on Hwy 11 to its junction with Hwy 130 at Keaau. Turn left onto Hwy 130 and follow it Southeast through Pahoa to its junction with Hwy 132. Turn left onto Hwy 132 and follow it East 2-1/2 miles to the entrance to Lava Trees State Monument, which will be on your left. Park in the lot ensuring you leave no valuables in your vehicle.

Clue: Follow the 2/3 mile loop trail to its ortheastern most curve in the path. Take 11 steps South along the path to an old charred and splitting paper? tree on the Eastern side of the path. From its base, look 330*, revealing a mossy lava rock covered crevice. Your koki'o prize lies awaiting your discovery in a quaint cubby hole.
Please locate, stamp in and rehide the letterbox discreetly as it's located immediately adjacent the path."

Note from last finder: "Sometimes the ferns are covering the area and no one can see the cubbyhole. It appeared that the brush had been recently cleared and I could easily see the area where the box was located."

Please email Norasta and let me know what you find! Mahalo!
