***Box currently out of production for repairs***

You will be traveling "TOP OF THE ROCKIES" Scenic Byway...ENJOY!
Fremont Pass is located approximately 12 miles northeast of Leadville. It is the site of the headwaters of the Arkansas River and the Climax Molybdenum Mine, which once lead the world in the production of molybdenum.

This is where the Arkansas River begins.

Traveling from Buena Vista in Chaffee County, go North on HWY 24 toward Leadville (about 30 miles). Continue North on CO 91 towards Climax. Near Mile Marker #9 is a San Isabel National Forest Sign on the right. Pull over here in a safe spot. Standing at the sign and facing NE, spot a large Spruce Tree down gully then back up at roughly 2 O'Clock Position from the San Isabel Sign. Find the box under the spruce looking through branches, mostly hidden under manmade pile of rocks.

After carefully replacing box please re-hide well.

We would suggest that you continue traveling on toward Climax, as you will get to pass the famous Molybdenum Mines.

UPDATE: 9/7/07...A letterboxer found the box and sent the following update: "The box itself is cracked and I didn't have one to replace it with, but the inside bag was in good shape and carefully sealed and the stamp and log are still dry."

4/21/08....Since we do not live in CO, if a kindhearted letterboxer could mail to us, we will reimburse postage costs. If someone takes it to mail to us, please let us know so we can post to the group. I'm afraid it wouldn't last long in the plastic bag alone through the cold temps.

Thanks!
