These boxes have been removed by aquarium staff. This location is not suitable for letterbox placement. Please visit the aquarium anyway - it's a great place to take the family! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is located west of Manteo off of US 64; it is open by admission year-round. It is home to all sorts of aquatic life native to the area, including sharks, alligators, and otters and has one of the largest salt-water tanks in North Carolina. There is a "touch tank" for kids to experience some oceanic species up close.

As you enjoy the exhibits, keep an eye out for the Osprey Cam. Then locate the Osprey nest on an elevated platform outside the building.

Box #1: back to osprey cam, 320 degrees, find HQUUKNRKV, spigot, thicket, look behind tall tree stump.

Box #2: 320 degrees, find BHSELWENOA, find LUKLS, left of thicket, pass bench, end of fence, underneath logs.

Box #3: return to BHSELWENOA, follow unmarked trail into trees, pass wildflower garden, snake & spider habitat, find bird and insect houses, look under DKTFDCVJ.

Be sure to watch out for thorny vines and poison ivy - these boxes were planted in the winter, so we're not sure what hazards summer growth will bring. This may be a fairly well traveled area; be sure to exercise caution when finding and replacing the boxes, and be sure to cover them adequately with leaves and pine needles.

The trail is short and easy, but may not be wheelchair accessible. There will be biting flies and mosquitoes in the summer, so be sure to wear bug spray. Let us hear from you!
