Directions updated 4/29/2006 these trails have been fixed up beautifully by the park service and they have added a parking area so you do not have the danger of parking on Log House Road.

These letterboxes are located on Log House Road in Damascus, MD in a part of Magruder Branch Stream Valley Park. . Directions: go North on Route 27 until you reach Davis Mill Road. Make a right on Davis Mill Road. Make your next left on Watkins Mill Road and continue on Watkins Mill Road for about 1.2 miles. Make a left on Log House Road and drive about .5 mile and make a left into the parking lot on your right hand side. Drive to the northern most corner and park. Find the trail head and begin your journey. Take a compass!

Donkey

Follow the path to the elbow bend where you are quite close to Log House Road. At the turn/bend, begin counting blazes, but be advised that blazes change on this trail often so I have included landmarks as well....at the 4th blaze...there is a hole in the tree under the blaze...go past the bend in the trail(5th blaze) and between the 5th and 6th blaze, as the trail begins to straighten out, look for a LARGE black and white rock off to the right side of the path. From the rock, take a reading of 220 degrees and look for a downed tree that is 25 paces into the woods running parallel to the trail. Walk to the end of the tree and look at the root base, there you will find the non-stop talking friend of Shrek.

Puss-In-Boots

Return to the trail and continue on down the path. From your next blue blaze count 50 paces to a large 2 in 1 tree on the left, the split of the two trees begins about waist high and is bearing the mark of the trail. Look due south and up, yep, you guessed it, UP that hill to the large downed tree with the large dirt clod. No....not that one, yea, you guessed it, that one UP there, the one far far away. Look to the back of the tree trunk, under some rocks you will find the adorable puss-in-boots. Watch out for those hairballs! After you stamp in and carefully rehide Puss, go back to the trail and continue on.

Princess Fiona

Keep going, and going, down the trail following the creek. You will know you are going the right way because at this point, you will notice that the creek and the trail run side by side, does'nt it sound peaceful... When you reach the part of the creek where there is a LARGE slide down and a tree in the middle of the path, you will know you are close to rescuing the fair Fiona. Just after the curve and around the tree in the middle of the path there is a large blazed tree on your right. Look straight past this tree into the woods on your right to a now fallen rotten tree with what looks like a large root ball at the end shooting up the hill. Walk to that fallen rotten tree 10-12 paces. Fiona is at the base of what used to be a tall standing "tower".

Shrek

Alas... Shrek... back to the trail and continue on, and on, and on..... Count eight blazes. At the 9th blaze there should be the resemblance of a "stone walk way" (a part of the path that is rocky not dirt) about four ft wide that stones cross the path. Walk to the next blaze, there is also one very close by that is on a fallen soldier...From that blaze to the 10th by my new count...but they are often changing...face the tree on your right, (you might need to walk a bit past this tree, in the summer the foliage is thick)take a reading of 240 degrees to a 3 in 1 tree half way up the hill. Shrek can be found at the base of the tree.

I hope you enjoyed these boxes. Remember a letterboxer must always be diligent...don't give up and always remember to think outside the box. Our area is constantly changing so be open minded to change and keep on looking, your prize may elude you a bit but usually it is there.
