12/08: Box was initially reported missing last month, but was recently reported as safe and sound, with stamp and all.

The word Kankakee is derived from the Potawatomi word teh-yak-ki-ki, which means "Swampy Country". Where the Kankakee and Yellow Rivers meet, a great flood plain exists. In this area, you can see a variety of waterfowl and game. Make your way to the "Swampy Country" Fish and Wildlife Area, West of Knox, IN. From the corner of SR 8 and SR 39, head south on SR 39. Cross the Yellow River and on your right you will see a parking lot, turnout. This is where your journey begins.

This box can either be a drive-by or a 2.6 mile hike, depending on the weather conditions. If it is dry, you can drive to the hiding spot. If it is wet, unless you have a 4 wheel drive, I wouldn't recommend it. The day I planted the box, the road was muddy, but passable and I drive a Corolla. If you are walking, a pedometer may be helpful.
NOTE: There are usually hunters around most times of the year. If you are walking, please wear orange safety gear if at all possible. A cheap plastic blaze orange vest from Wal*Mart could save your life!

Clue:

At the north end of the parking lot, you will see a sign stating "Yellow River Road". From this sign, set your spedometer (or pedometer) and drive (or walk) exactly 1.3 miles. Take your time and enjoy the river views. When your spedometer (or pedometer) hits 1.3 miles, a very large cottonwood tree has two caves at its base. In the less-sinister cave, behind a panel, is the box you seek.

Please re-hide well!
