Around the globe, the Chinese New Year celebrations will take place based on February 9th 2005, which is start of the Lunar New Year. Preparations for the New Year often begin during the last month of the lunar year. It is an auspicious occasion, and great detail is taken in its readiness. The home must be cleaned thoroughly. The past year's dirt is swept away, and clutter is straightened out. This is done so that negative aspects of the past year are not brought forward to the New Year. New clothes and new shoes are worn to usher in the New Year. Special foods are carefully prepared.
In Chinese Astrology there are five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) and twelve animals (rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig) forming a complete cycle of sixty. This means there are five different types of Rooster years: wood rooster, fire rooster, earth rooster, metal rooster and water rooster. 2005 is a Wood Rooster year.

The rooster is the first creature to awake in the morning and wakes up the others with crowing. Time to get up and get on with it, the rooster personality is up-front and focused. Their forthright nature will not make Roosters the best diplomats, however you can count on their thorough approach and attention to detail to get the job done. We associate the qualities of sharpness and precision with the qi (energy) of the rooster, as its essence is the metal element.

General Rooster characteristics: Sincere, self-assured, bold, reckless, adventurous, entertaining, witty, good with money, perfectionist, seeks praise and hates criticism, arrogant, boastful, hard-working but dreamy and a pedantic nitpicker.

INFLUENTIAL ELEMENTS for specific Rooster years:
1945 WOOD: Feb 13, 1945 to Feb 1, 1946

CLUES:
The plucky Wood Rooster started his walk at the park named for “Old Mother ________ went to her cupboard to fetch her poor dog a bone”. He started in the parking lot and then strutted through the tunnel. Next he cocked his head to the left and headed down the stairs to the Youth Pavilion. He made his way to the river and then followed it downstream and through a fence. He then boldly followed the fence up the hill until he reached a dirt path. He continued his adventure by heading south and recklessly raced down a rather steep hill and back up. He was certain he was on the right track as he continued south and eventually saw several birches on his right, between the trail and the river. From here he took out his trusty compass and set it for precisely 113 degrees. He carefully made his way in to the fallen tree where he found a comfortable spot to begin his New Year celebrations.

You may want to start (or end) your search with a meal at one of the nearby Chinese restaurants. William H’s is at 3524 N Oakland Avenue and E. Garden is at 3600 N Oakland Avenue.
