Carriacou Letterbox

Last Known Status: Alive and Well!
Estimated Time: err . . . days?

I think I can safely say that everyone viewing this page enjoys two things: Letterboxing and Tropical Islands. Well, it's about time someone combined the two. My brother took a trip down to Carriacou, an island which is part of Grenada (the one near S. America, not the one in Spain), for an archeological dig in March. Since it was out of the question for me to go along, I asked him if he would place a letterbox down there for me. He agreed, and so I carved a nice little stamp with a tropical theme.

The island of Carriacou is tiny! It's not uninhabited (see the town above), but it certainly has no large thriving urban cities. Just getting to island involves flying to the general vicinity, taking a boat from one island to the next, slipping the customs guy a $50 bill, jumping from a moving steamship 3 miles from the island and swimming in. Ok, so maybe I lied at some point during this paragraph, but you get the idea. My point is, if you want to nab this cherished box, you'll have to do some planning. Why don't you plan a nice tropical vaction around this box?

Clue:
Make your way down to Greater Breteche Bay at the southern end of the island. Aroud this bay is a rocky beach. The box is hidden under the southwest corner of a large trapezoidal rock, about 140 meters from the end of the road. From the box, Grenada is visible (on a clear day) at 240, Kendeace Point at 100, the highest visible point at 280.

I realize that the chances of this box ever being found by a letterboxing are slim to nil. However, if by some chance you do decide to get this one, please drop me a line so I know how it's doing.

Because I realize that no one is ever going to find this box, I'll post the image of the carved stamp on this page next time I have access to a scanner. Thanks to my little bro Patrick for getting this box down there.
Here's a little page on Carriacou
