Park at the Eagle Creek Nature’s Center, and make sure you’re prepared for a 1 ½ - 2 mile hike.

Walk past the building, the bird-feeding area, and the Douglas fir on display.
Continue on this path past the EEIS Headquarters and the lookout on your left.
When the trail deadends, pass through the opening in the fence and take a left (heading west) on an old paved road. Turn right at the first gravel road that does not permit vehicles. Cross the gravel-covered bridge, but do not head left when the path splits.

You will pass a large stump, and a clear-cut area with mulch piles. At the next Y, near the lake, stay on the main trail heading left. After a brief walk, resist the temptation to descend on the trail that heads to the water. Instead, take 13 paces. Spot the bent tree on your left – it is 8-10 inches in diameter and close to the trail, near the beginning of a southerly curve. From that spot on the trail, count 50 paces. On your right you should find large fallen trees overlooking the lake. Find the fallen log closest to and parallel with the water. You may find what you seek lodged in the split approximately 5 feet off the ground and 2/3 of the way up the trunk.
