Cubby has wondered away from his mother and he is too young to take care of himself. Please follow the clues and find Cubby. Enter Uwharrie National Forest off of Rt. 109. Turn onto Reservation Road by the Uwharrie Forest sign and travel to Moccosin Creek Road where you will turn left, go approx. 1.5 miles and turn left onto Dutch John Road. Follow Dutch John Rd. apporx. 1.9 miles. You'll pass the parking areas on both sides of the road. Go over the one lane bridge and park. Start at the yellow post marking the horse trail, BATES. Take a compass reading from the post of 320 degrees NW to the tree where the heart rests. Then go 308 degrees to the twin trees in the middle of the trail. From here your reading is 240 degrees SW, take 15 steps to a tree. Cubby is hiding under the rock pile at the base of the tree. He will so happy to see you.
This is a beautiful area. Take off your shoes, minnows, crayfish, lizards and SNAKES abound in the streams. Uwharrie National Park offers boating, horse trails, ATV trails, hiking trails and camping. There's a great map of the area on their web site. We hope you will take time to explore and enjoy this bearutful park. GOD BLESS!!! (-:
