DIRECTIONS:
Go East on HWY 20 out of Bend. (West on HWY 20 out of Sisters) When you reach Tumalo go left on O.B.Riley Road.(It will be on your right if you are coming from Sisters). Turn right at Tumalo Res. Road and a quick left on Johnson Rd. Follow Johnson road 4.5 miles to Shevlin Park on the right. Go through the gate and park.

WARNING: There have been sighting of both bear and cougars in this park.
Be aware of your surroundings. If you see a cougar or bear make noise, stand tall don't crouch. Be sure to read the waiver of responsibilites.

CLUES:
UPDATE: 2/22/2020 There was a prescribed burn and trail cleanup in the park Fall of 2019. Please contact Flutterby-N-Caterpillar on AtlasQuest.com for maintenence.

From the parking lot area just past the building on the right. Notice a bulletin board on the west side of the road. Just to its right you will notice a trail. Shevlin Park Loop Trail. Don't worry the sign says 6 mile loop but you will only be on it for less than a mile. Follow the trail and enjoy the scenery and animals. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, coyote, bobcat, racoons, birds and even possibly a bear or a cougar! After a bit the trees (I believe they are Black Pine) get thicker, you will notice the paved road to your left. Continue on the trail, a gentle climb up. At near the top notice 2 deformed trees on the left that look like they've been on steroids. Look up to your right and take mental note of the rocks and trail above. Ahead is a huge delimbed trunk burned on the ground. Continue past it on the trail until you reach the Railroad Trail junction. Head right ~300 paces. Look down to your right and see the deformed trees. Look at the rocks to your left. The Resident waiting under the far right SPOR.
Going back to the Railroad Trail junction, you can return the way you came to the left, or take the spur trail down to the right. See the gate at the far end? This is Red Tuff Gulch (hint).

At near the top notice 2 deformed trees on the left that look like they've been on steriods. Ahead is a huge tree leaning to the left. (*This tree has fallen since clues were written, and burned in fire*). Head towards that tree on the trail and just before you get to it, notice a trail up the hill. Take it. (*This trail was destroyed in the 2019 burn cleanup.*) At the top you'll notice another trail. Go right 70 steps (I'm 6 feet tall so it may be more for you) to a small pile of rocks on the left side of the trail. Face west and in front of you should be a small pine. Behind this pine to the left at the base of that big rock is The Resident waiting under rocks.
Return back 70 or so steps back down to the bottom trail. Go left back the way you came OR go right and you will hit a dirt road. This is Red Tuff Gulch (hint).
Go left and it will take you back to the paved road. Once at the paved road go left again to retun to your car or continue boxing. There are 4 other boxes in this park as of 3/14/05.
