This box is a Geocache / Letterbox hybrid located on Spectacle Island in Portsmouth, RI. The entrance and parking for "The Cove" is located off Rt. 24 North, across the highway from the Montaup Country Club.
You need a kayak or canoe to access the island. A small motorboat can be used at HIGH TIDE. From the most obvious launch point, you will be facing the West side of the island. You can paddle straight across and land on the west side, or you can paddle around to the south side. Either by foot or by boat, on the south side of the island you want to look for a pretty obvious path which may be marked by a sign, a blue pail, or perhaps a piece of construction-looking equipment. Walk in that path - letterbox is on the right, about 70 feet up, at the base of a downed tree.
For coordinates and MapQuest link (as well as othe map links to site), please visit http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=2db01b3a-3c08-4552-815e-1057ee7a6528.
This is a great cove to paddle around in. Go clamming, take a swim, have a picnic!
Peace.
