Carkeek Park down 110th Street off of 3rd Avenue N.W. There is only one park entrance; as you make a left from the stop sign into the Park entrance, you go down a winding road. As the road forks, the road becomes one way in each direction; stay the the right over several speed bumps. Pass the first set of parking spaces on your left, and continue to the main park area, and park in the first space you can on your right. There are two rows of picnic benches, above which you will see a covered picnic area made of stone on a hill above the benches. The covered stone picnic "house" is called "Shelter 2." Take the main path from the parking area and walk up to "Shelter 2," passing the two rows of picnic benches on your left. Pass the very large tree trunk / log on your right. You will see a small gravel path/trail, heading up the hill. Take that path up the hill until you get to the first plateau. The First plateau branches off into three directions; take the path/trail that leads left. This path/trail is identified as "North Bluff Trail" as indicated by the brown signpost. After walking for a short spell, you will arrive at the first "Y" in the path, and take the path on the left. You will see stairs straight ahead. Pass the smaller path on your left as you walk towards the stairs, take the five stairs down (ignore the stairs you will see on your right) and continue up 17 stairs. Follow the path to the right, and take a 90 degree turn up the hill just before you get to the viewing area that is straight ahead of you. Walk through the large ferns on the main path up the hill. Walk up the approximately 7 intermittently spaced stairs made of railroad ties. After the top of these "stairs," the main path continues up and to the left. Take the less defined path to the right. On your left, there is a tree that has a distinctive "V" trunk (a split trunk). Look on the west/sound side of the "V" tree, and you will see a fallen tree with the Easternmost end almost touching the "V" tree, and pointing West. Under that fallen tree trunk you will see three smaller trees growing out from under the fallen trunk. Look at the base of the one of those three smaller trees that is closest to the "V" tree. You should find the letterbox there. We have a "Bartholamew Cubbins" hat for a stamp. This is our first letterbox that we planted, so we hope you enjoy the hunt!
