Difficulty: Easy
Distance: About 50 yards
On October 24, 2004 Lech Walensa, Solidarity leader and former Prime Minister of Poland visited Panna Maria, Texas to celebrate the town's 150th anniversary. Panna Maria, founded by Polish immigrants in 1854, is located just off Hwy 123 between Stockdale and Karnes City.
To find the Solidarnosc letterbox, go to the Panna Maria cemetery. Under a cluster of live oak trees look for the tombstone of little Elzbieta, age 4 1/2. Atop this tombstone is a statue of a little girl. The statue is looking at the hiding place of the letterbox, about 10 steps away.
