Wild West Series #5 is the Box Turtle. This turtle represents the Turtle Clan of the Lenape (Delaware) Indian. Thumb Print Bandit is Lenape. The Lenape came to this region in the late 1700's. Bartlesville, Oklahoma is the home of the Delaware Nation and has a population of over 10,000 members. Many live scattered in the non-Indian communities throughout northeastern Oklahoma, and people of Lenape descent can be found in virtually every state of the Union. In 1907 the Delaware were allotted lands throughout the Cherokee Nation.

To find the turtle find your way to Sequoyah State Park. Follow the road into the park past the Three Forks Nature Center, going to the left. You will come upon the Choctaw RV Area. You will see a sign on the right pointing to the hiking trail to the right and to a Naturalist Observation Blind to the left. Park out of the way and walk to the hiking trail. Follow the path down the hill a short ways until you come to a large outcrop of rock on the right. Stand in front of the largest rock outcrop facing the lake. Walk across the path to a tree about 5 feet from the path. Behind it is a pile of rocks that cover the turtle. Happy Hunting.
