Update 9/25/06 box #2 has been replaced and has new clues This series of letterboxes have been places for your enjoyment in mind. It is my pleasure to do so. Please replace lids tightly to keep them dry. And return them to their intended hiding spots, completely concealing them so others can also enjoy the find. Thank you and happy boxing. flagbearer

#1 Marshall County's First
Cyrus Taber was the first white child born in Marshall County. He was born June 26, 1833 and died December 27, 1877. The cabin of his father, Samuel D. Taber was located south of Plymouth on old Highway 31. A field stone bearing this and other historic information is located beside the road just south of Ridgeview Drive. There is a wide berm to pull your car off and locate Marshall County's First tucked under the edge of the stone. Carefully replace the letterbox using the small stones to rehide it so that the people that maintain the area will not notice it, continue south on 31 to 12th Road.

#2 New Beginnings
Turn west on 12th Road and find the small Taber family cemetery on the south side of the road. You will want to turn around (perhaps at the race track just past the cemetery) so you can park your car on the south side of the road. You can park you car at the race track gate closest to the cemetery and walk up the sloped hill to the cemetery entrance.

The Taber Cemetery was used between 1835-1877 and contains the grave of Samuel D. Taber, Cyrus' father. Locate Samuel's grave and walk 4 paces east to Lucy E, wife of H. Shaffer. Northeast of Lucy's grave is the stump of a once mighty tree that shaded her resting place. This would be a great place to hide a letterbox exept it didn't seem to make the journey back to it hiding place. I have recarved it and it is now in another location. Look behind broken grave stones leaning against a twin trunk tree to find the means of travel that brought the Tabers from the east to Marshall County.

#3 Some Like It Fast
It was slow traveling for the pioneers that first settled Marshall County. That is not the case today as can be seen just down the road (perhaps you turned around there).

Return to Lucy's stone and look behind three pieces of grave stone that are leaning against hers. Behind them you will find how some prefer to travel.
