***9 Feb. 2008*** The 3 cottonwood trees have apparently fallen down, but are still on site.

When we visited this lovely recreation area the lupin and other wildflowers were blooming all around. We felt as if we were walking through a Renoir painting, surrounded by blue blossoms and waving grass. We hope our beauteous bud will lure you to explore and enjoy this area. The walk is about half a mile round-trip on a grass and rock path.

Directions:
From Oakdale go east on Route 120 to Orange Blossom Road. Turn left onto Orange Blossom and go about 8 miles to Knights Ferry. The road will become Sonora Road as you approach Knights Ferry. Continue east through town until you come to a stop sign and the road changes to Covered Bridge Road. Go straight through the intersection then turn right into the parking area for Knights Ferry Recreation Area.

Park in the lot. With your back to the Visitor's center, turn right. Walk west and up the stairs. Carefully cross the road. Turn left and cross the river to the Russian Rapid Trail on your right. Follow the trail through grasses and lupin. We saw deer and raccoon footprints along this portion of the trail.

When you first approach the river, you will see a cluster of 2 or 3 cottonwood trees close together on your right. The bluffs will be visible ahead of you. From the path next to the trees, turn around. Walk back 45 steps up the way you came. Turn right and go 10 steps off the path. Beauteous Bud hides beneath a natural seat under dried grasses and small rocks. After stamping in, please replace the rocks and dried grasses.
