Originally planted by Rubaduc and adopted in January 2012 by CodyBCleo.

One letterbox on the Appalachian Trail. Just under three miles round trip but lots of uphill and very steep in places. This box was intended to be on top of Bald Peak where I used to hike a lot with my friend Mendelssohn, but that land has gone to a private concern and is no longer accessible to the public. The spot where the box is was once the trail leading to Bald Peak from the Appalachian Trail.

Directions: From Route 44 West in Salisbury look for Factory road just after the town hall. This becomes Bunker Hill Road and the parking area is known as the Bunker Hill Parking lot, neat how that works huh?
Or you can go the long way (Mendelssohn's way). From Route 44 West turn right onto Route 41, turn left onto Cobble Mountain Road, turn right onto Factory Road which becomes Bunker Hill Road etc.

This stamp was carved by Cody B Cleo and we planted it together with Mendelssohn's help

Clues: The trail is gravel in the beginning, showing that a lot of work has gone into making this trail dry. You soon need to turn right onto a dirt road for a few steps and then left onto the blue trail at the Lion's Head trail sign. Continue on the blue blazed trail (mostly uphill) until it comes to the white blazed Appalachian Trail, where the blue ends. Stay straight on the AT, going right will take you to the parking lot on route 41. Continue on the white trail until you summit Lion's Head where you'll see a sign high on a tree to your left. At this point you're 1738 feet above sea level and should have a 360 degree view with Twin Lakes below you. Awesome!!
After catching your breath, continue on the white trail, mostly downhill until you come to a tree on the right side of the trail with two faded blue blazes and one white blaze. About 15 steps (on the trail) past this tree is a white birch across the trail (if it is removed you should still see the remaining part to your left). If you come to the Mt. Riga camping area, you went too far. Go to the root end of the tree and in it's hollow truck is the Bald Peak letterbox covered with a piece of bark from the tree.

Thanks for taking a difficult hike.
